Start Your Own Home Based Photography Business
Tom Jackson
More and more jobs are being lost in these uncertain economic times. Job loses are at the highest since the great depression, according to news sources. Many of these folks do not have a second income source and so will have to depend on the small, short term, unemployment benefits, or the generosity of family and friends. But even families are having a hard time to help anyone but themselves.
What is the solution?
There are countless tales of people who have been in this situation, and have figured out a way to not only generate an income to keep up with all the bills, but have gone on to create very successful businesses. Sure, its takes some courage and some skills, but it can be done.
So, the question is, what skills do you have that you can turn into a money making business? Do you own a good digital camera? Have your friends have told you how good your photography is? Are the prints you create are appreciated by friends and family? Whenever there is a special family event, does everyone look to you to capture those special moments? If the answer is yes, then how about starting your own photography business. With a little help, you can start your very own business without the need to re-invent the wheel.
Starting your own photography business may sound difficult at first, but many professionals began their careers by taking photos of family and friends. If you enjoy meeting people and taking photos, if you enjoy editing images on the computer, then you could start a business with photography. If you have a decent camera and flash, and know how to get good photos from your equipment, then you could start making money with photography. You can start as a part time photographer, and build up a portfolio. There are always events you can cover that will enable you to make some money. Just let your friends know you are available to take photos for their special events, and word of mouth will soon spread.
Now, one of the way that a great many professionals began their careers is with wedding photography. Let me just say right up front, you can make a lot of money shooting weddings. Many of top photographers began by shooting weddings, either for themselves or for a studio. Also, that as the photographer, you will often be required to act as the wedding coordinator as well, as these days, most brides cannot afford one. And if there is no wedding coordinator, then it is usually the wedding photographer who will make sure everyone is where they should be most of the time. This is a great opportunity to have your wife/girlfriend/etc. act as your assistant and hence add value to your service. Girls make great assistants because they will often have strong ideas on how they want their wedding to be (perfect) or if the are married, they will have the experience on how to avoid the problems they encountered when they were married. Having an assistant will also help the bride relax, knowing there is someone who can help and see things as they see things, and therefore allow you to get some really great photos. This will broaden your reputation, and will make you more money. You do it because you love it, and the money will naturally follow. Do not be embarrassed to accept the cash. You are providing a service, and you need to pay bills and buy more equipment
An eCourse will help in this aspect also, as it covers the entire event in detail. As the wedding photographer, you will also need to make sure that the bride and groom follow your directions. Make them aware that it is in their interest to follow your directions because they want a whole lot of great looking photos for their album.
